The Illinois State softball team closed out a winning weekend at the LSU Tiger Classic on Sunday with a 2-0 blanking of Purdue at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La.
The win, the second of the tournament over the Boilermakers, ups the Redbirds' record to 8-12 after a 3-2 weekend showing.
Riley Hale hit a leadoff single to start the top of the second inning and later scored to give ISU a 1-0 lead. The Redbirds would add an insurance run in the seventh when Alex Caliva singled home pinch-runner Stephanie Tulen.
Freshman Morgan Day (2-5) went the distance for the win, scattering three hits, walking two and striking out one.
