Gunner Peterson hit two of Illinois State's six home runs, including a grand slam by Tyson Hays, as the Redbirds belted out 22 hits to overpower Southeast Missouri State, 18-6, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday at Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Derek Parola contributed four hits and three RBIs as the Redbirds improved to 9-5. Parola, John Rave and Adian Huggins also homered for ISU. Jordan Libman, Peterson and Huggins had three hits each.

“Baseball is a game that’s meant to be played with regularity. Midweek games are essential to a hitter’s timing," said ISU coach Jason Holm.
