College Report 10/24/16: ISU rallies to clinch Valley title

The Illinois State soccer team scored twice in the final seven minutes to pull out a 2-1 win over Evansville on Sunday to clinch the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title at Evansville, Ind.

The victory clinched the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the Redbirds (11-5-2, 4-0-1). ISU has now won 11 regular-season titles in the 20-year history of the program.

Despite outshooting the Purple Aces 6-4 in the first half, ISU found itself trailing 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Evansville's Colleen Dierkes in the 37th minute.

The Redbirds applied offensive pressure the entire second half but did not break through until the 83rd minute, when Brianne Richards took a feed from Lauren Koehl and scored in a flurry in the box to tie the match at 1-all.
