Bright outlook: New scoreboard, ribbon boards at Redbird

NORMAL — Fans coming into Redbird Arena for basketball games next week won’t need sunglasses. Yet there should be no mistaking a new brightness in the 26-year old facility.

“We’re hoping they’re wowed,” said Peyton Deterding, who is Illinois State’s associate athletics director.

Deterding has been overseeing a $950,000 project that will involve a new scoreboard hanging over center court and installation of a pair of ribbon boards behind the baskets. The old scoreboard was taken down earlier this week and the new one put up, with the ribbon boards put in place last week.

The Daktronics system will be unveiled during the Redbird women’s basketball game against Chicago State on Monday and the men’s game against Tennessee State on Tuesday.
