ESTERO, Fla. -- A driving layup by Deron Powers in the final second gave Hofstra a 92-90 victory over Bradley in the opener of the Gulf Coast Showcase Monday at the Germain Arena.
The Braves (2-2) played the defending Colonial Athletic Association champions evenly all day as freshman guard Darrell Brown turned in an outstanding 34-point effort. Brown hit a pair of long 3s in the last minute to force a 90-90 tie.
The Braves had a chance to win in the final half-second, but Donte Thomas' 3-point attempted bounced off the front rim.
BU last led 80-79 at 3:19 before Powers scored 11 of the last 13 Pride points.
