SPRINGFIELD, MO – Bradley freshman 2B Jackson Chatterton was 3-for-4 with a home run, but it was not enough to tip the scales of a bizarre ninth inning toward the visitors as host Missouri State (9-9, 1-0 MVC) opened Missouri Valley Conference play with a 5-4 win against the Braves (6-10, 0-1 MVC) Thursday night at Hammons Field.
The teams entered the ninth inning tied, 4-4, and Chatterton started a 2-out rally for the Braves with a single to right field. It appeared the Braves had loaded the bases after Ryan Vogel reached on an error and a third strike pitch to Brendan Dougherty caromed to the backstop.
