NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State soccer (2-6-2, 0-1-1 MVC) suffered its first conference loss Sunday as Belmont (5-5-1, 2-0-0 MVC) moved by the Redbirds 2-0 at Adelaide Street Field.
Illinois State generated strong first-half opportunities that didn't break through. Freshman Chloe Cline put a pair of shots on frame, but Belmont was able to make saves on each try. Fellow freshman Eve Gricius nearly scored in the 42nd minute but the chance went high over the crossbar.
Moments later Belmont struck first in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
