CHEKHOV, Russia — South Carolina’s A’ja Wilson had 30 points and eight rebounds, leading the United States to a 78-70 women’s basketball victory against Russia in the FIBA U19 World Championship final on Sunday.
Illinois’ Chatrice White added 10 points and five rebounds in the victory.
The United States, which won its sixth consecutive gold medal at the event, needed runs late in both halves to hold off the Russians.
Wilson earned tournament MVP honors after averaging 18.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in seven games.
