CHAMPAIGN — Sitting at a table on the eighth floor of Memorial Stadium on Monday, Tre Watson’s footwear caught everyone’s attention initially.
The Christian Louboutin studded loafers were easy to spot on the Illinois linebacker, who is also involved with his fraternity, Omega Psi Phi, a key reason he was sporting such exquisite shoes.
“The shoes are part of the Manhood Monday ensemble,” Watson said. “We dress up because everything we do during the day is as though we’re handling business as men.”
His play last Saturday against Michigan State, when he corralled a career-high 16 tackles during the Illini’s 31-27 win against the Spartans, is what thrust him and his wardrobe choice into the limelight this week.
