TULSA, Okla. — Illini sophomore Aleks Vukic advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships on Friday, defeating North Carolina’s Ronnie Schneider 6-4, 6-1.
“(Vukic) had another slow start (Friday) but was really able to kick it into another gear midway through the first set,” UI coach Brad Dancer said in a release. “We all have so much respect for Ronnie that (Vukic) knew he would have to play better. He played very aggressive through the second set.”
Vukic, seeded fourth, was scheduled to play Virginia Tech’s Joao Monteiro on Saturday for a spot in the semifinals.
