CHAMPAIGN — Each member of the Illinois volleyball team wears a device during practice and matches that counts the number of jumps they make.
Check out the results from that jump technology after a match and you might see Alexis Viliunas totaling a higher number than starting outside hitter Jocelynn Birks.
Birks’ jumps come from being the No. 1 target in the Illini attack and the times she gets up to block. Viliunas’ are a different story.
The 6-foot-1 setter is on the sideline this season after spending the last two-plus years as Illinois’ starting setter.
