U.S. Open primer: Four area golfers tee off

The best golfers have descended upon the Pacific Northwest this week. Built just off the Puget Sound and opened in 2007, Chambers Bay Golf Course is the site of the 115th U.S. Open, which begins today. With two former Illinois golfers, one current Illini and a former area standout set to compete, staff writer SCOTT RICHEY breaks down their games:

Nick Hardy
Today’s tee time: 11:12 a.m.
Group: Alex Kim and Rich Berberian Jr.
FYI: Hardy made it through local (Flossmoor) and sectional (Springfield, Ohio) qualifying to secure a spot in not only his first major but also his first professional tournament — albeit as an amateur.
