A University of Illinois spokesperson said there will be an independent investigation into the allegations by a former Illini football player against the coaching staff.
Spokesperson Robin Kaler says athletic director Mike Thomas is requesting the investigation from someone outside the university to look into Simon Cvijanovic's allegations of mishandling of his injuries and being pressured to play when hurt.
Kaler said Thomas and UI Chancellor Phyllis Wise are working together on how best to proceed with an independent review of the allegations and on who will conduct that investigation.
