SANTEE, Calif. — Another nonconference tournament, another solid showing for Illinois softball.
First-year coach Tyra Perry’s team racked up its 11th win in its last 13th tries Sunday, closing the San Diego Classic II with a 9-1, five-inning triumph against Seattle.
The Illini (18-8) took four of five games at their latest out-of-state event.
They won just two of five games in the season-opening Florida International Invitational, but one of those victories came against then-No. 10 Florida State.
Illinois followed with three wins in four tries at the Big Ten/ACC Tournament, three victories in five games at the Texas Invitational and four triumphs in five attempts in the Under Armour Invitational, ahead of the San Diego Classic II.
