CHAMPAIGN — Illinois’ grasp on the final Big Ten tournament berth remains tenuous after a 2-0 loss to Northwestern on Saturday night in the team’s final home match of the season.
The Illini (9-5-3, 3-4-3) pressed their offensive advantage in the first half — and ultimately outshot Northwestern 17-12 — but it was the Wildcats (12-4-2, 6-3-1) who capitalized. Addie Steiner scored in the 26th minute, and Niki Sebo’s goal in the 72nd minute sealed the win.
Jannelle Flaws and Hope D’Addario led Illinois with four shots apiece. Flaws had two on goal, and Nicole Breece got all three of her shots on frame.
