UI roundup: Sedlock rates elite honor

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois pitcher Cody Sedlock, who could hear his name called on Thursday night during the first round of the Major League Baseball draft, earned first-team All-America honors on Tuesday by Baseball America.

The right-hander became the 14th first-team All-America selection in UI program history, and Sedlock’s honor is the second consecutive year an Illini pitcher received this distinction after Tyler Jay was one in 2015.

This is only the second time in UI history that Illinois has had All-Americans in consecutive seasons and the first time since Andy Phillip and Lee Eilbracht were All-Americans in 1947, followed by Russ Steger in 1948.
