FORT WORTH, Texas — Illinois women’s gymnast Giana O’Connor totaled a 39.425 in the all-around in Friday’s afternoon session of the NCAA Championships’ semifinals, tying for third and earning first-team All-America honors.
O’Connor turned in the best all-around score by an Illini in NCAA Championships history.
Mary Jane Horth finished 12th in the all-around at 39.200, and Sunny Kato, who qualified as an event specialist by sharing the Morgantown (W.Va.) Regional bars title, tied for 29th (9.825) in the event.
In softball
Winning streak ends. Annie Fleming went 4 for 4 with a home run, but the host Illini lost 11-7 to Wisconsin on Friday night, snapping Illinois softball’s (19-22, 8-5 Big Ten) seven-game winning streak.
