AUGUSTA, Ga. — Illinois men’s golf was, at one point this season, ranked first in the nation. The now-second-rated Illini took a big step toward earning that status once more.
Charlie Danielson finished tied for second, Thomas Detry also recorded a top-five finish and Illinois defeated No. 1 Texas and 13 other teams Sunday for the 3M Augusta Invitational title at Forest Hills Golf Club.
“It was a solid day from the start,” Illini coach Mike Small said. “The key to (Sunday) was to get off to a good start on some of the tougher early holes.
