MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Bing Singhsumalee held fifth place Monday after two rounds of the Minnesota Invitational, helping the Illinois women’s golf team to third place heading into today’s action at Minikahda Club.
Singhsumalee, a freshman, shot an event-low 66 in her first 18 holes and followed with a 76 over the next 18, putting her at 2 under overall. She is 2 strokes behind Minnesota’s Celia Kuenster for the individual lead.
The 6-under round by Singhsumalee tied the lowest score in Illini history, matching performances by Seul Ki Park (2007) and Becky Beach (1976).
Stephanie Miller (5 over) was tied for 13th, and Dana Gattone (6 over) held a share of 19th after Day 1 for Illinois, which sat at 16-over 592.
