CHAMPAIGN — That storm that rolled through town Friday night, wreaking havoc with high school football schedules and postponing the Illini game?
It could cost the University of Illinois athletic program six figures, though the final bill isn't in.
The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will pick up the tab for the ushers and ticket-takers who worked double-duty, for an extra night at a hotel for the UI football team, and for the police officers who directed traffic — twice — to and from the game, among other costs.
The department's "business interruption insurance" doesn't apply to weather-related game delays, said Susan Young, senior associate athletic director for business affairs.
