UI football player in jail awaiting transport to Georgia in sex case

URBANA — A University of Illinois football player will remain in the Champaign County Jail on a sex charge from Georgia until transportation can be arranged to return him there.

Julian M. Jones, 18, who listed an address in the 900 block of South Third Street, Champaign, appeared before a Champaign County judge Thursday following his arrest late Wednesday afternoon at football practice.

A Champaign police detective and a federal marshal had a warrant issued by authorities in Cobb County, Georgia, charging Jones with aggravated sexual battery and simple battery.
