Turk, Zahn honored

ROSEMONT — The Illinois men’s track and field team received recognition from the Big Ten on Tuesday, two days after the Illini won the program’s first Big Ten outdoor title since 1994.

Illinois coach Mike Turk was unanimously voted as the league’s Coach of the Year, the first time an Illinois men’s track and field coach earned the distinction since Gary Wieneke did so in 1994.

Zahn, a senior from Morton, won the conference’s Track Athlete of the Year and Track Athlete of the Championships. Zahn — the first Illini to win both honors since Andrew Riley achieved the feat in 2012  — won the 400 meters and anchored the winning 400 relay and 1,600 relay at the Big Ten meet.
