Only once in 65 years has the UI Open been canceled, with bad greens to blame in 1962.

Organizers are confident that total won't rise despite dozens of damaged trees making the Orange course in Savoy unplayable on Monday. Sunday's intense storms took a toll on the tree-lined 18-hole layout.

"I've never seen anything like it," said MIKE WALLNER, director of the UI Golf Courses. "but we're emaking progress as far as cleaning it up. It's just a glitch."

Wallner hopes to open the Orange's front nine today ahead of Saturday's first round of the UI Open.
