Fifty years ago, the University of Illinois won a national wheelchair basketball championship at the Assembly Hall.
Guess where this year's tournament will be held?
The '69 "Gizz Kids" will be part of the celebration when the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Tournament plays out under the bright lights of State Farm Center on March 14-16.
"It validates wheelchair basketball on campus," said MAUREEN GILBERT, coordinator of UI's wheelchair athletics program. "It gives the prestige and honor that wheelchair basketball deserves."
Thirteen programs — including the UI's men's and women's teams — make up the field.
