Looking back at 2017: Cerny appeared in just two games as a redshirt freshman last fall after sitting out the 2016 season. He made his debut in Illinois' trip to Tampa to face South Florida and played as an extra lineman as an eligible tight end against Nebraska. The Academic All-Big Ten selection enrolled in the college of business mostly provided offensive line depth in practice.
Looking ahead to 2018: Cerny's role got a boost this spring when he worked with Illinois' first-team offensive line, replacing Larry Boyd at one of the tackle spots.
