Looking back at 2017: Watkins saw his role increase last season as a redshirt sophomore when he appeared in all 12 games and made seven starts at defensive back — a mix of corner and nickel. He finished eighth on the team with 39 tackles and tied for third in pass breakups with three. Watkins also had his first career interception (against Minnesota) and forced his first career fumble (against Nebraska) in addition to being voted a captain by his teammates for the Iowa game.
