No. 10: Chayce Crouch, QB
Why he’s important: The logical choice to replace Wes Lunt should the Illinois starting quarterback falter. At least on paper. New offensive coordinator Garrick McGee didn’t come out at the end of spring ball by publicly naming a backup to Lunt. But the Ohio native should have the upper hand when it comes to holding off Jimmy Fitzgerald and Jeff George Jr. once practices get going in August. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Crouch is entering his third season with the Illini, yet his playing time is minimal. After redshirting in 2014, Bill Cubit used him mainly in run-oriented situations last season.
