URBANA — University of Illinois suspended basketball player Leron Black told a judge Friday afternoon that he understood the crime he’s accused of committing at an Urbana nightclub late Thursday.
The hearing lasted four minutes.
Black appeared before Judge John Kennedy, who read him the single Class 4 felony count of aggravated assault alleging that Black threatened a security guard at the Canopy Club with a folding knife around midnight Thursday.
The 20-year-old sophomore from Memphis, Tenn., also indicated he understood that if convicted, he faces penalties ranging from probation to one to three years in prison.
