CHAMPAIGN — To bring fans to their feet these days in college football, it takes some razzle-dazzle on offense and creative play-calling on defense.
The same goes for stadium munchies.
“I used to serve nachos and cheese. Now, we have barbecue beef on the nachos with cheese,” says Terry Conlon, director of concessions for University of Illinois athletics. “People buy it because they are willing to pay for it. Taking a staple and making it gourmet is part of the trend.”
The changes at Memorial Stadium concession stands this fall won’t be as monumental as what’s happened to the coaching staff.
