CHAMPAIGN — Senior forward Alex Wittinger netted a game-high 18 points, while junior Courtney Joens and freshman Mackenzie Blazek added 10 points each, but Illinois women’s basketball struggled to keep pace in a 70-56 loss to Michigan on Sunday afternoon at State Farm Center.
The Illini (10-16, 2-13 Big Ten) romped to a 6-0 lead early in Sunday’s penultimate home game of the regular season, as Joens and Wittinger each sank three-pointers, but the Wolverines (18-9, 9-6) snatched the lead with an 8-0 run to end the first quarter and never let up.
Wittinger, who added 10 rebounds, finished with her eighth double-double of the season.
