BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — What a weekend it was for Jonathan Wells.
The Illinois redshirt junior capped it off by winning the men's high jump title during the final day of the Big Ten track and field outdoor championships on Sunday at the Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind.
He did so in record fashion for good measure, as the Fox Lake native broke the program's 39-year-old high jump record with a clearance of 7 feet, 5 inches.
Gail Olson held the previous record of 7-31 / 2, set in 1979. Wells scored 20 of the Illini's 38 team points during the meet, thanks to a second-place finish in the long jump and seventh in 110-meter hurdles.
