CHAMPAIGN — Mike Small has had some talented teams the past four years. NCAA runner-up in 2013. National quarterfinal participant in 2014. Then the semifinals last June.
But Thomas Detry, who’s contributed to each of those men’s golf teams, thinks this year’s Illini could be special. And they’re out to fill the one hole in Illinois’ program résumé — a national championship — starting with the NCAA regional May 16.
“We’ve been playing pretty well the whole spring and (are) going into regionals with a lot of confidence,” Detry said.
“I feel like we might do something pretty special,” Detry continued.
