Ryne Roper transferring from Illinois

CHAMPAIGN — Ryne Roper started thinking about transferring from Illinois before the 2015 season started.

The Illini sophomore third baseman wasn’t entirely sure about his decision, though, and turned his focus back to the season at hand.

But those same thoughts lingered throughout the spring, and after the season concluded Roper made his decision not to return to Illinois for the 2015-16 school year and transfer to Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where he’ll continue his baseball career with the Bulldogs, a Division II school.

“It was a lot of thinking and a lot of praying,” Roper told The News-Gazette on Tuesday.
