Illinois defensive end Bobby Roundtree is still recovering at Mease Countryside Hospital in Safety Harbor, Fla., after undergoing emergency surgery on Sunday night. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Largo, Fla., native suffered a severe spinal injury on Saturday in a swimming accident during his time at home after the end of the school year.
No official update on Roundtree's condition was available on Tuesday.
Illinois spokesman Kent Brown said Tuesday that coach Lovie Smith, who flew to Tampa on Sunday, plans to stay in Florida "for at least the rest of the week," to monitor Roundtree and provide support for the family.
