According to multiple media reports, former Miami (FL) defensive backs coach Paul Williams is headed to Champaign to fill a similar role on Bill Cubit's staff at Illinois; the news was first reported by Dave Wischnowsky on Wednesday morning.
Williams, who will be coaching the Hurricanes in their Sun Bowl contest against Washington State on Saturday, was also on Cubit's staff at Western Michigan from 2005-2006. In total, Williams has 19 seasons of collegiate coaching experience.
During the 2014 season, Williams helped develop Miami’s secondary into one the ACC’s best units. As a group, the defensive backs held opponents to under 200 yards per game while ranking third in the league and 17th nationally.
