A bizarre set of circumstances on Saturday during the Illini's game against Nebraska led to Illinois inadvertently going for it on fourth down when nearly everyone inside Memorial Stadium thought it was third down.
On Monday, the Collegiate Officiating Consortium, which consists of the Big Ten, Mid-American and Missouri Valley Conferences, issued a statement acknowleding a "breakdown in officiating mechanics," during the game.
