The same struggles that have plagued Illinois all season followed the Illini to Lincoln, Neb. Too many fouls (particularly 20-plus feet from the basket), too many easy layups allowed early and — as a topper — too many turnovers.
What it means
The Illini could find themselves in for a long Big Ten season if they can't shore up their persistent mistakes. Of course, a team full of freshmen and sophomores could look quite different in February. Illinois is counting on it.
What's next
A "home" game ... in Chicago. Illinois wanted to keep its game in the Windy City but also draw a better crowd.
