ORLANDO, Fla. — Tre Johnson already holds an edge on Illinois defensive end Jihad Ward. Or so he claims.
“I’m actually a little taller than him,” the newest Illinois football commit said with a laugh on Friday.
The 6-foot-6, 285-pound Johnson from Orlando (Fla.) First Academy orally committed to Bill Cubit’s program on Friday, becoming the 16th commit in the 2016 class for Illinois.
Johnson won’t get the chance to play with Ward, but maybe he follows in his footsteps. He almost matches up to Ward’s size (6-6, 295) and expects to play Ward’s position at the UI.
