Five area swimmers had successful ends to their seasons. Sophomore Payton Woods, from Champaign Central, had a record-setting meet for Michigan State at the Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championships. Individually Woods broke his own existing record in the 50 freestyle, lowering his time to 19.71 seconds, and anchored both the 200 and 400 medley relay squads that also set program records. Later in the meet he would set another Spartan record as a member of the 400 free relay.
Two days after Franklin College swimmer Brynna Sentel, a freshman from Sullivan, was named a First Team All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree, she earned Women's Swimmer of the Year honors at the 41st Liberal Arts Championships.
