The second player from a 2021 College Football Playoff team in as many days has committed to Illinois. Yesterday, it was Eddie Smith from Alabama. Today, Jafar Armstrong from Notre Dame.
Armstrong, a former Fighting Irish wide-out/running back, has put up over 800 yards from scrimmage in three seasons in South Bend and also notched nine scores. In 2018, he rushed for nearly 400 yards on just over 70 attempts for an average of 5.3 yards a carry. He’s since seen his workload dwindle to 46 carries and 17 last season.
A top-500 recruit coming out of high school, Armstrong has bulked up to 210 pounds on a 6-foot-1 frame and should add a good blend of explosiveness and power to the Illini offense.
