NCAA volleyball tournament a hot ticket in C-U

CHAMPAIGN — After Illini season-ticket holders had Monday all to themselves, the general public got a crack Tuesday at what was left of seats at Huff Hall for this weekend's NCAA volleyball opening rounds.

Within 20 minutes, the 200 or so remaining reserved seats were gone. By midafternoon Tuesday, just 850 general-admission tickets remained for Friday and Saturday matches.

"We're not sold out yet, but that's the expectation," said UI associate athletic director Jason Heggemeyer. Season-ticket holders "bought real quick. That fan base has been really loyal to us, so it was important to have that first day just for them to make sure they felt like they were being taken care of.
