CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Game-changer, at least momentarily.
While the Illini offense had begun to find some life, it was a defensive play that gave them the first half’s biggest play.
With the Illini trailing Northwestern 14-13 in the final two minutes of the first half, Scott intercepted an overthrown pass from Northwestern quarterback Ben Bryant and took it all the way back to the endzone.
It was reminiscent of the Illini’s last defensive touchdown, another Miles Scott pick-six to flip the momentum in their Week 1 victory over Toledo.
Unfortunately, Northwestern would go all the way down the field and answer with a touchdown to end the half, giving the Wildcats a 21-20 lead at the break.
