CHAMPAIGN — Recruiting Florida often has been good for the Illinois football team. Corey Liuget, A.J. Jenkins and Jameel Cook all came from the state.
Lovie Smith is dipping into Florida to fill part of his first recruiting class. Four Floridians have made commitments. So far.
Smith did one-stop shopping at Miami Central, landing two players in receiver Carmoni Green and defensive end Owen Carney.
As a bonus, both players already have enrolled and will participate in winter drills.
“This spring, I expect to be thrown into the fire,” Carney said.
Green, a 6-foot-1, 190-pounder, was rated a four-star recruit by rivals.
