COLUMBUS, Ohio — The effort was there. Just not the execution, according to Illinois men’s gymnastics coach Justin Spring.
For the second straight year, the Illini finished second at the Big Ten Championships, with Ohio State winning the Big Ten title at St. John Arena.
The third-ranked Buckeyes compiled a score of 434.450, with the fifth-ranked Illini next in line at 429.700.
“They showed real grit,” Spring said of his team. “We just made a couple too many mistakes. Grit is great, but having a great meet is better. It wasn’t even the lack of great hits.
