LIVE! Bill Cubit fired

A little more than three months after being hired to be the full-time University of Illinois football coach, Bill Cubit was unexpectedly fired from the position Saturday morning.

A press release from the university stated Josh Whitman, the incoming Illinois athletic director, made the decision to release Cubit from his duties. This came not long after Whitman, on the WDWS 1400-AM radio show "Saturday Morning SportsTalk," gave a vote of confidence to Illinois men's basketball coach John Groce.

“I appreciate the leadership that Bill Cubit provided our football program during what has been, unquestionably, a very tumultuous time,” Whitman said in the release.
