CHAMPAIGN — Add Khalid Lewis to the ever expanding list of Illini that likely won’t be available for Wednesday's Big Ten opener against Michigan.
A source close to the program said the fifth-year point guard has contracted the mumps, although Illinois coach John Groce would not confirm which player it was or the illness, saying “I’m choosing not to at this point.”
“We have a player that has an illness and is obviously recovering from that,” Groce said. “I’m not an expert at all that stuff. That’s (director of sports medicine Paul Schmidt) and the doctor’s area of expertise.
