Illinois football picked up a commitment in the Class of 2018 on Monday morning from three-star outside linebacker Khalan Tolson.
A native of Saint Petersburg, Florida, Tolson is the 10th high schooler to commit to head coach Lovie Smith and the Illini program in his class — and the first from the linebacker position.
Tolson had other offers from notable schools like Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State and South Florida.
The owner of 4.62 40-yard dash, Tolson has great quickness to get to the QB and awareness of how to stop the run in the backfield. What he lacks in size (6-0/200), he makes up in strength and leadership on the field, key characteristics Smith has been looking for in his second full Illinois recruiting class.
