ROSEMONT — Illinois baseball player David Kerian won his second Big Ten Player of the Week award this season on Monday, the Big Ten office announced.
Kerian helped Illinois (45-6-1) to the program’s 30th Big Ten title last week, hitting .667 with three runs scored, a home run and three RBI in two wins against Nebraska.
Kerian, who leads the Big Ten with a .383 average and a league-best 13 home runs, takes a 17-game hitting streak into Wednesday’s Big Ten tournament opener for the Illini, who face Nebraska at 5 p.m. in Minneapolis.
This is the second time Kerian has won this honor in May, and he joins teammates Jason Goldstein (May 12, April 7) and Casey Fletcher (April 27) as other Illini to win the accolade.
