EUGENE, Ore. — David Kendziera was a whisker away from an NCAA title.
Officially, it was 0.01 seconds.
That's all that seperated the Illinois redshirt senior from his first-ever national championship in the final meet of his college career.
In Friday's 110-meter hurdle finals at the NCAA Championshpis on a rainy evening at Hayward Field, Kendziera outleaned LSU's Damion Thomas but the Mount Prospect native couldn't edge past Florida's Grant Holloway, the defending outdoor 110 hurdle champion.
Holloway won again — this time in 13.42 seconds — to beat Kendziera's time of 13.43.
Kendziera still leaves Track Town USA with a pair of medals, becoming the first Illini since Andrew Riley in 2012 to do so.
