Injuries shuffle the deck at offensive guard

URBANA — Gabe Megginson spent his entire summer practicing at one of the guard spots on the Illinois offensive line. When training camp opened two weeks ago, that didn't change.

Then Christian DiLauro was held out nursing a leg injury, and Megginson shifted outside to tackle. When DiLauro returned, Larry Boyd wasn't practicing. Megginson's assignment remained the same.

Monday marked Boyd's full return and Megginson's shift back to guard.

But the 6-foot-5, 305-pound Jacksonville native knows he'll have to hold onto that versatility for a young, inexperienced Illini line.

"It's been tough (after) working all summer at guard," Megginson said.
